CleanSlate UV

Class of 2015

CleanSlate UV allows healthcare and food processing facilities to rapidly sanitize smartphones, tablets and portable equipment. It reduces the cross-contamination risk from these devices via a 30 second UV-C process. The solution uses no chemicals, and is so intuitive that anyone can use it, no training required.

What was the inspiration for your company?

Taylor Mann: Well, I (Taylor) came up with the idea to clean smartphones because I am a germaphobe. The inspiration to tackle the healthcare market came from speaking with a friend who was a nurse in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, where smartphones are banned because of the risk to the babies, but where parents regularly violate this ban for a variety of fairly heartbreaking reasons. That use case continues to drive us today.

What are your thoughts on Buffalo?

TM: I love Buffalo. I grew up just over an hour away on the Canadian side of the border, and my dad used to have Bills season tickets, so I spent a lot of my childhood travelling in and around this area. It is pretty clear to me that there is a renaissance going on here right now, and that’s why we’re so excited to become a part of the local ecosystem.

What is your personal motto?

TM: Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you, have fun, work hard, and learn from your mistakes.
