Art lover? Tell me what these artists have in common: Picasso, van Gogh, Monet, Pollock, Warhol, Gauguin, Matisse, Rothko, de Kooning, Miro, Still and Dali.
Stumped? You can find works by each of them at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
How did this this world-class collection end up in Buffalo? The Albright-Knox was founded in 1862 and early on, the gallery’s board made it their mission to collect contemporary art. In doing so, they forged strong relationships with artists and often acquired works the same year they were produced.
Today, the gallery is one of America’s oldest public arts institutions, but it remains on the cutting edge of art collecting and it recently welcomed an ambitious new director, Janne Siren, who comes to Buffalo after serving as head of the Helsinki Art Museum.
Find the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo’s Museum District, tucked at the edge of another masterpiece – Frederick Law Olmsted’s Delaware Park.
