Opened in 1926 by Michael Shea, Shea’s Performing Arts Center has stood as an entertainment icon in downtown Buffalo for nearly a century. The theatre is renowned for its beautiful design. Architects C.W. and George L. Rapp of Chicago designed the theater, which was modeled after a European opera house, while Tiffany Studios created the interior of neo-Spanish Baroque design. It is one of the only theatres still existing that was built by these theatre architects. The theatre has hosted names the likes of Frank Sinatra, The Marx Brothers, and Bing Crosby. Shea’s still hosts multiple shows a year and continues to renovate to further improve the already stunning theatre.
