Uber NY and 43North have announced a partnership, the latest piece of Uber’s ongoing push for legislation that allows ride-sharing across New York state.
The joint efforts will include UberPITCH, a business competition that Uber will bring to Buffalo in January. Local entrepreneurs will pitch Uber for a $5,000 prize.
According to a joint announcement with 43North and Uber, the arrangement also includes:
• 43North will host Uber leaders and investors at its incubator space on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.
• 43North will have access to UberNYC’s office space in Manhattan to promote the competition and entrepreneurship in Buffalo.
• Uber will fund scholarships awarded by 43North to local students.
• Uber will serve as a 43North sponsor next year.
The timing of the announcement is no accident, as the advocacy effort to bring Uber to the entire state has provided a steady drip of news in recent days. A group of local beer companies and distributors announced their support for Uber on Thursday, and Pegula Sports & Entertainment President Kim Pegula did so Wednesday.
The Erie County legislature recently designated $100,000 in funding to advocate for ride-sharing legislation.
