With the cracks of wooden bats and the booming voice of the umpire in the hot summer sun, it means only one thing is in full swing: Buffalo Bisons baseball. The Bisons bring the traditional American pastime to Coca-Cola field every summer for fun that fans of all ages enjoy.
Founded in 1979, the Bisons continue to make Buffalo proud. It is no surprise that over 500,000 attendees come each season. In addition to Buffalo’s only minor league team, the Bisons are the official farm team of the Toronto Blue Jays and have a close relationship with Southern Ontario. With home base located in the heart of downtown Buffalo, Coca-Cola field is the one and only place to catch a game set amongst the Queen City skyline.
Like most things in Buffalo, the Bisons put their own unique Buffalo twist on one of our favorite sports going above and beyond your standard Triple-A baseball team. For example, nothing says a good start to a baseball game than a race between some celery, a chicken wing and some bleu cheese. This less-than-fair race kicks off every game and gets the fans cheering for mascots of their favorite Buffalo foods. First time to the game? Be sure to cheer for hometown underdog, Celery. One of these days, Celery, we know you’ll win the race.
Looking for something more than just baseball? How does a Star Wars themed night sound? Once a year, the Bisons hold an annual Star Wars night where the force is in full effect. Light sabers, storm troopers and the occasional R2-D2 are just some of the few things you can expect to see. If family fun and fireworks are what you’re looking for, the Bisons have you covered. The Friday Night Bash takes place every Friday night with a pre-game pizza party and fireworks that illuminates the Buffalo sky.
So come grab a hotdog and come down to the ballpark to support Buffalo’s own ball players and enjoy America’s favorite pastime.
