Dining Al Fresco in Buffalo

One of the best parts of living in Buffalo is the expansive selection of different places to eat outside scattered throughout the city. Each place is different, delicious and unique to itself. While there are so many locations, here are five fun outdoor spots to grab an appetizing meal or a cool drink on a hot summer day.

1. Dock at the Bay – Located 15 minutes outside of the city on Hoover Road in Blasdell, Dock at the Bay is situated right on the bay providing a beautiful, beach-like canvas as your backdrop when eating here. Along with freshly prepared seafood, steak, chicken, and salads, the Dock at the Bay hosts volleyball leagues right on their sand courts, and often there will be live music throughout the summer. Add in a few folk legends about ghosts that may be present, and the Dock at the Bay is much more than just good food.

2. Black Rock Kitchen and Bar – This “neighborhood place” offers unique culinary creations that are innovative but still down-to-earth. The diverse menu can be indulged upon while enjoying the beautiful stone garden in the new outdoor patio. Perhaps a cooler night? No worries – there’s a room adjacent to the main patio that allows diners the benefit of eating outside while enjoying a little warmth in this sheltered area. Grab some friends and come to Black Rock Kitchen and Bar for a night of food, drinks and a cozy outdoor setting.

3. Ristorante Lombardo If an upscale setting, a craving for rustic Italian cuisine and a check that won’t make your wallet cringe is what you’re in the mood for, look no further than Ristorante Lombardo. This Buffalo staple serves traditional Italian food that is both classic and delicious. Recently, the restaurant renovated its outdoor patio for an added stylish touch to this classic space. Lombardo’s is the spot for a charming evening for two, a night with good company, or an exquisite dinner party.

4. Resurgence Brewing Co. – Buffalonians have always had a love affair with beer. At Resurgence Brewing Co. on Niagara Street in Buffalo, they make our passion for beer a reality with a gorgeous, welcoming beer garden to boot. One of the hottest places to get a cold beer this summer, Resurgence draws a crowd with its craft beers and relaxed atmosphere. Be sure to get there early if you want a coveted seat outside. The garden is set up in a communal fashion which allows guests to easily socialize with one another. That is, you aren’t too busy playing a game of life-size jenga or gathering around the fire pit. The menu offers light fare from local favorites such as Gramma Mora ‘s, Martin Cooks, English Pork Pie Company, and Breadhive Bread.

5. Mother’s – Last but certainly not least is Mother’s found off of bustling Allen Street on cozy and narrow Virginia Place. The outdoor patio can be described as an escape to somewhere outside of Buffalo. Brooklyn perhaps? Or possibly Philly? The lanterns, lighting and fences provide a secluded vibe that encompasses a perfect summer night. Plan ahead because Mother’s is packed wall-to-wall nearly every night thanks to its beautiful atmosphere, late night menu and great drink prices.
While these are just some favorite spots to enjoy a nice summer night, there are plenty more to find throughout Buffalo. Take a break from your usual spots and visit one of these venues this summer.
