A Busy Buffalo Weekend

Looking for something to do this weekend? Then you ‘re in luck! Liz Callahan, the Workforce Development Manager at Buffalo Niagara Partnership, compiled a list of weekend activities!

All Weekend:

Pond Hockey Tournament – The 8th annual Labatt Blue Buffalo Pond Hockey Tournament will return to the Buffalo RiverWorks entertainment complex on Ganson Street for the second straight year. The 2015 Tournament will feature expanded hockey play – including three full days of hockey action, from Friday, February 20 – Sunday February 22, 2015. Nearly 240 total games are scheduled, as 142 teams and approximately 1,000 hockey players will take to the ice. Players will compete across 12 divisions, including 11 men ‘s and one women ‘s division.

Lumagination at the Botanical Gardens – Head on over the Botanical Gardens for the opportunity to see it lit up with amazing light displays, creative designs and interactive features!

Albright-Knox Art Gallery – Built in 1890, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery is a major showplace for modern and contemporary art. Admission is 50% off this weekend, so stop on by!

Friday:

Flying Bison Tour @ 6pm – Flying Bison Brewing Company is a packaging brewery located in the city of Buffalo, and the first stand alone brewery to operate in the city proper since Iroquois Brewing closed its doors in 1972. During the tour, their beers are available to sample for free in 1oz cups or in large 3oz cups for a nominal cost.

Explore Buffalo Happy Hour – From their Facebook: “Explore Buffalo has completed one full year of tours, events, and programs that celebrate all things Buffalo – which means it is time for a party! Join us at historic First Presbyterian Church on Symphony Circle to celebrate the accomplishments of the past year and look forward to the many exciting new ways to experience Buffalo that are in the works for 2015.” General admission is $30

Saturday:

Hydraulic Hearth Bagels and Booze Brunch @ 11am – Every Saturday from 11am- 3:00pm, Hydraulic Hearth and BreadHive come together to serve a brunch filled with delicious bagels and a variety of toppings.

Flying Bison Tours (1 and 4pm) – See Above

Black Squirrel Distillery Opening – From their website: “Black Squirrel is a craft farm distillery. We ferment maple and distill it to make the most delicious craft spirit ever.” So grab a beer, and while you ‘re there, stop for a taco at Lloyd Taco Truck, who will be stationed nearby!

North Park Showing “The Italian Americans” @ 11:30am – The Italian Americans reveals how Italian immigrants challenged the notion of the American “melting pot” – chronicling four generations of Italian-American lives, from the massive late 19th Century wave of immigration to today. This special screening includes a live, in-person Q&A with the PBS documentary ‘s write and director!

Outdoor Activities:

Ice Skating at Canalside – Whether you want to test out an Ice Bike, try your hand at curling, or simply want to skate, Canalside is the place for you, with rentals ongoing all weekend.

Snowshoe Rental: Tifft Nature Preserve – Take in the outdoors by snowshoeing through Tifft Nature Preserve. Traditional wood snowshoes and young children ‘s plastic snowshoes are available for rent in the Visitor Center.
